The JICA Alumni Association

The JICA Alumni Association of Bangladesh was established in November 1979 with the intention of creating a link with the ex-participants after returning to their home country. To date the Association has a total number of one thousand fifty participants. To enhance its various activities, the Association has formed an Executive Committee consisting of 25 members. Dr. M. Enamul Huq, an ex-participant of JICA, Inspector General of Police (Rtd) Bangladesh, Senior Advisor JICA, Advisor Embassy of Japan, Visiting Expert United Nations Organization is the President of JICA Alumni Association of Bangladesh.

The Association is engaged in different types of activities, which are as follows:

1. General Activities

  1. Operation of the Association – to review and evaluate its activities the association holds an Annual General Meeting once every year. In addition, the members of the Executive Committee meet once in every month to monitor the Association's activities.
  2. Information source for its members – the Association publishes Newsletters and a yearly magazine “Sunshine” which provides information on its various activities.
  3. To encourage Friendship Among its Members – events such as cultural functions, picnics and sports tournaments are arranged by the Association for its members and their families.
  4. To promote greater understanding of Japan – the Association organizes Japanese Language Courses for its members and also for the general public.

2. Social Activities

The Association raise funds among its members and helps those in need during times of flood with clothes, food, medicine etc. Winter clothes for the poor were also provided by the Association members. Moreover, every year a Tree Plantation Ceremony is arranged by the members, where they distribute plants/seeds to the village people.

3. Activities in Cooperation with JICA

  1. Orientations are given to participants prior to their departure for training in Japan.
  2. Extends cooperation to JICA Follow-up teams and arrange interaction with ex-participants.
  3. Organizes seminars in various sectors with the assistance of the ex-participants.
  4. A Japanese language Class is conducted for the newly dispatched JOCV members.
  5. To enhance regional cooperation of JICA Alumni Association of SAARC countries.
  6. To observe JICA Foundation Day on 1 st August every year.
  7. To participate in preserving natural heritage and help clean the city from environmental disaster.
  8. To promote Ex-participants expertise in various fields.
