Ambassador IWAMA attends Indo-Pacific Business Forum (IPBF)

   

On Thursday, January 12, Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori attended the fifth Indo-Pacific Business Forum (IPBF) which was co-hosted by the Governments of the United States and Japan in a hybrid format in Tokyo. Specifically, Ambassador IWAMA joined Dhaka-based livestream session titled “Mobilizing Infrastructure Investment in Bangladesh and the Indo-Pacific” together with H.E. Mr. Peter Haas, Ambassador of the United States.
 
 Mrs. Sharifa Khan, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Mr. Towfiqul Islam Khan, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), Mr. LEE Myung-Ho, President of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka, Country Representative for Bangladesh, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Ms. Rubaba Dowla, Country Manager, Oracle Bangladesh also participated as panelists.
 
The session aimed at demonstrating how Japanese and United States private sector and public sector engagement in quality infrastructure can produce positive and sustainable growth for the Bangladesh economy. Ambassador IWAMA mentioned in his speech some of the major infrastructure projects supported by Japan such as Dhaka Metro which was inaugurated in last December, expansion of the Dhaka International Airport, Matarbari Deep Sea Port and Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) in Araihazar, and stressed the importance of developing quality infrastructure and improvement of investment climate for attracting further infrastructure investment.
