Japan Supports BDT 22 million to Two Grass-Roots Human Security Projects


     The Government of Japan, on February 26, 2023 extended a grant of USD 215,654, which is approximately BDT 22.39 million to two Bangladeshi NGOs, Dhaka Community Hospital Trust (DCHT) and Switch Bangladesh Foundation. H.E.Mr. IWAMA Kiminori, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, signed the ‘Grant Contracts’ for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) at the Embassy of Japan with the respective organizations.
 
     DCHT has been awarded USD 92,079 as grant for The Project for Procurement of Medical Radiology Equipment at Dhaka Community Medical College Hospital in Dhaka District. DCHT is providing the medical services to low-income people and developing human resources in the medical field. With the assistance of the GGHSP funding, DCHT will install 1 digital X-ray machine and 1 Orthopantomography (OPG) dental X-ray machine to the Dhaka Community Hospital to provide high-quality medical services with low-cost, and contribute to improving the local medical environment and health promotion to the targeted community.

     Switch Bangladesh Foundation has been awarded USD 123,575 as grant for The Project for Construction of School for Compulsory Education of Children in Poverty in Dhaka District. Switch Bangladesh Foundation is providing the primary and secondary education to children living in slums in Mohammadpur, Dhaka District. With the assistance of the GGHSP funding, Switch Bangladesh Foundation will construct a school in Mohammadpur to provide compulsory education to children living in the slum area and improve the education environment as well.

     Japan has supported 210 NGO projects through its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) since 1989 with the view to enhancing economic and social human security in the grass-roots levels. The total sum of these GGHSP grants extended to NGOs in Bangladesh to date amounts approximately to $16.46 million.
