Selection Criteria/How to Apply

1. Eligible Applicants:
International and local NGOs who have registration of NGO Affairs Bureau, Bangladesh.

2. Selection Criteria:
For Organizations:
・More than 10 permanent employees(excluding project staffs and volunteers);
・At least 5 years of practical experience in the relevant field is preferred;
・Land ownership by organization (for construction project only);
・Adequate income and financial stability;
・Previous experience with international donors is preferred.
For Project Proposal:
・Convincing project rationale based on detailed baseline survey;
・Generation of concrete and substantial social benefits;
・Participation of the local community;
・Financial and operational sustainability;
・Past experience and sound track-record in relevant field;
・Benefit extends to the grass-root people regardless of their political, religious, or racial orientation;
・Addressing Basic Human Needs (BHN) of the grass-roots people;
・Reasonability of the proposed cost estimates;
・Reasonability of items requested;
・Positive impact on GoB’s program in the relevant field/area
3. Grant Amount & Items to be Covered for Funding:
The grant amount per projects is under 10 million yen in principle(1JPY≒0.75BDT in June 2016).This grant scheme covers mainly the hard components of grass-roots development projects. Hard components include, but not limited to, infrastructural development, equipment, furniture and alike. Soft component is covered if it is significant for the project such as training to utilize hard components. Especially for soft component, sustainability after completing project has to be proved.
Example of items not to be covered:
- Maintenance cost
- Organization’s running cost such as staff salary and utilities.
- Profit-earning activities
- Research and Survey which don’t benefit grass-roots people directly
- Consumable goods
- Vaccine
- Books
- Vehicle (except special purpose vehicle such as trash collector)
- Electric devices such as computer
- Bank charge, VAT and Tax
4. How to Apply:
Download application forms (GGHSP Format 1 and GGHSP Format 2) from following link and submit them along with additional supporting documents to the following address. Supporting documents must address the selection criteria.

5. Important Dates & Deadlines:
Deadline for Application Submission: We accept applications through-out the year. However, applications are screened once a year for our convenience in July. Therefore, it is advised to submit applications by 30th April. Applications submitted after May will be forwarded to next year for review. However, applicants are advised to submit applications well in advance to avail sufficient time for review and discussion;
Application Result: Applicants will receive official letter containing the decision on their applications by the end of December.
Fund Disbursement: March, next year. For example, if an applicant submits application before 30 April 2015 and gets selected for funding, then the fund will be disbursed in March 2016.
6. Project Period:
Project period is 1 year after Grant Contract in principal. However, organization can apply for consecutive year(s) to develop and expand the project further. Application has to be submitted each year in the case.
