On July 28, Ambassador SAIDA Shinichi attended the “Seminar on the Ship Recycling Industry in Bangladesh in collaboration with Japan” held in Dhaka. This seminar was jointly organized by the Ministry of Industries of Bangladesh and JICA as part of the ongoing JICA Ship Recycling Project.

The seminar marked a significant moment following the official entry into force of the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC) on June 26, 2025. Ambassador Saida delivered remarks highlighting Japan’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s transition toward a safer and more sustainable ship recycling industry under the HKC framework.

From the Bangladesh government, Mr. Obaidur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, and other senior officials participated and reaffirmed their strong dedication to the Convention’s implementation. From the Japanese side, representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), the Japanese Shipowners' Association (JSA), ClassNK, and major ship companies attended the seminar and shared insights into international best practices and future cooperation.

Japan remains a steadfast partner of Bangladesh in enhancing capacity, improving environmental and safety standards, and establishing a globally recognized model for green ship recycling.
