Pre-Opening of the Japanese Film Festival: The Japanese Films for Children

On November 23rd, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh hosted the pre-opening of the Japanese Film Festival, featuring Japanese Films for Children. This event, held at the Embassy’s hall, was organized in collaboration with the KINEKO International Children's Film Festival, SHOM (Spouse of the Head of Mission), and the Children’s Film Society Bangladesh.
Ambassador IWAMA and Madam IWAMA Tomomi warmly welcomed the children. In his welcome speech, Ambassador IWAMA said, “These films are not just entertaining—they offer a window into Japan’s culture and values. In Japan, we love to tell stories through art, film, and animation. And that’s the power of culture—it helps us understand each other, laugh together, and learn from one another. I also hope this event will inspire you to grow your interest in Japan.”
The students enjoyed four award-winning Japanese short films:
- Komaneko - The First Step (こまねこ はじめのいっぽ)
- Grandpa's Star Fireworks (じいじのほしはなび)
- There Must Be More Than That! (それしかないわけないでしょ)
- Sweet (すいーと)
As a special treat, the students received Japanese sweet chocolates from Madam IWAMA Tomomi, Madam Manu Verma, and Madam Paola Belfiore, as seen in the film “Sweet.”
Special thanks to our special guests who supported this event:
- SHOM (Ms. Manu Verma, Ms. Paola Belfiore, Ms. Eliane Alcantara Feres, Ms. Hadja Sata Seck)
- Mr. Md. Shahariar Al Mamun, Director, Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh
