Minister Takahashi Visits Feni to Review $3.3M Japan-IOM Flood Recovery Project.

On 8–9 June 2026, Minister Takahashi visited Feni District to observe recovery and resilience‑building efforts supported by USD 3.3 million in assistance from Japan to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) through the Project for Flood Response and Recovery in Chattogram Division. This support has benefited approximately 500,000 people in Noakhali, Lakshmipur and Feni—three districts in eastern Bangladesh that were among the most affected by Cyclone Remal and the subsequent floods in 2024.

On the first day, he attended a coordination meeting with IOM and its implementing partners—Caritas, Uttaran and the Eco‑Social Development Organization (ESDO). He thanked them for their dedication, acknowledged the strong engagement of local authorities and community members to date, and encouraged continued efforts through completion and beyond to ensure long‑term resilience.

On the second day, he visited project sites in Fulgazi and Feni Sadar. In Fulgazi, he inspected a community solar network system and a community tube well, and met two livelihood programme beneficiaries to hear first‑hand how the assistance is improving their livelihoods. In Feni Sadar, he observed improvements at the Purba Bijayshing Shelter and joined the distribution of in‑kind assistance, personally handing over items to beneficiaries.

Welcoming the progress made, Minister Takahashi expressed his hope that communities will be better prepared and more resilient in the face of future disasters. He called for local ownership and leadership to sustain these investments over the long term.
