International Law Moot Court "Asia Cup 2023" Winners' Debriefing Session



Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori and his wife hosted the International Law Moot Court "Asia Cup 2023" Winners' Debriefing Session at his residence in the evening on October 25. The "Asia Cup" is one of the largest international law moot court competitions in Asia. It has been held annually in Japan for students from Asian countries since 1999. This year, the team from Bangladesh, the Dhaka University Moot Court Society (DUMCS) team comprising Ms. Oishe Rahman, Mr. Rafid Azad Saumik, Mr. Fiaz Rabbani, Ms. Tanha Tanzia, won the championship. This session was held to commemorate the team's victory.
This time, the Asia Cup was held as a part of "The First Tokyo International Law Seminar," which was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan at the United Nations University in Tokyo from August 21 to 24. In the seminar, officials and legal experts from Asia and Africa gave lectures in the field of international law for the participants. Through the interaction and discussion among the participants, the seminar aims to contribute to the peace guided by the rule of law. Prof. Dr. Shima Zaman, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka (President, DUMCS), and Mr. Mohammad Shah Alam Sarwar, MD, IFIC Bank, representing the sponsors, congratulated the team on its victory. Ambassador IWAMA said, "I would like to congratulate the team of Dhaka University Moot Court Society for winning the cup. I have heard that you have made tremendous efforts to participate and win the competition. I really appreciate your efforts and skills which were shown in the Asia Cup in Tokyo". "We have invited many students from the DUMCS today. I wish the junior students of the society would show the interest in participating in the next Asia Cup and follow the four prize winners in the future. By studying international law in the university, I do hope that you will understand the importance of ‘rule of law’ in the international community and some of you will apply for the foreign service in Bangladesh".
