Japan Supports BDT 17 million to Three Grass-roots Human Security Projects

The Government of Japan, on March 14, 2022 extended a grant of USD 224,891, which is approximately BDT 17.99 million to three Bangladeshi NGOs, Friendship, Bangla-German Sampreeti (BGS) and High Light Eye Hospital. Ambassador ITO Naoki signed the ‘Grant Contracts’ for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) at the Embassy of Japan with the respective organizations.
Friendship has been awarded USD 73,437 as grant for The Project for Provision of Emergency Ambulance Services in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar District. Friendship is providing various humanitarian programs in the refugee camp and its surrounding areas for approximately 180,000 displaced people, such as health, gender-based violence, health, mental health and education. With the assistance of the GGHSP funding, Friendship will procure and install three ambulances in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar to improve the medical infrastructure and medical environment of the Rohingya camps.
Bangla-German Sampreeti (BGS) has been awarded USD 75,211 as grant for The Project for Construction of Health and Pathology Centre in Cox’s Bazar District. BGS has been working to raise awareness of individual health and sanitation problems in Maheshkhali Upazila, Cox's Bazar District. With the assistance of the GGHSP funding, BGS will construct the Health and Pathology Centre in the Matarbari Village, Maheshkhali Upazila, Cox's Bazar District to improve health care and the medical access.

High Light Eye Hospital has been awarded USD 76,243 as grant for The Project for Installation of Eye Disease Medical Equipment in Faridpur District. High Light Eye Hospital is operating a hospital, which provide treatment for eye disease patients and initial medical care (primary health care) for low-income groups. With the assistance of the GGHSP funding, High Light Eye Hospital will install the medical equipment at the Highlight Eye Hospital in Bhanga Upazila, Faridpur District, to strengthen the medical care and treatment system for eye diseases and improve the health care services.

Japan has supported 204 NGO projects through its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) since 1989 with the view to enhancing economic and social human security in the grass-roots levels. The total sum of these GGHSP grants extended to NGOs in Bangladesh to date amounts approximately to $15.8 million.
