The Japan Foundation Artefact exhibition charm visitors at the Bangladesh National Museum

   In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Japan and Bangladesh, The Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the Japan Foundation, and the Bangladesh National Museum co-organized “ The Japanese Spirit of Gifting: Giving Shape to One’s Thoughts and Emotions’’ in Nalinikanto Bhattoshali Gallery at the Bangladesh National Museum. The 10 days long exhibition showcased different types of materials and formalities of gift exchanged in Japan.

   On 12th February, Hon’ble State Minister K.M Khalid, MP graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest along with Ambassador ITO Naoki. In the ceremony the Ambassador has given the minister details behind each exhibits.

   From 4th February more than 2500 visitors has attended the exhibition at the National Museum. The exhibition will be wrapped up on Sunday, February 13th.

   The participants were enthralled by the patterns, design, vibrant color of the materials in the exhibit. Moreover visitors were introduced to the idea of producing gifts and the way they reflect the giver’s thoughts and feelings. In Japan, the exchanging of gifts is often considered an expression of gratitude or wishing for the happiness of the receiver.

   In ceremony the minister remarked, “I am truly impressed by the conservation techniques that went into keeping these historical and traditional artefacts in pristine condition. Today’s event comes at a time, when both our countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationship. In this view, I hope our deep bond of friendship will forever remain steadfast’’.

   At the end of the event Ambassador ITO Naoki also gave his remark by saying, “ Today’s ‘Kimono’ exhibition with more than 90 different artefacts provides visitors with an insight into beautiful Japanese tradition of gift exchanging. Besides, this exhibition showcased the wisdom of Japanese artistry and craftsmanship in a whole new light. I am sure this exhibition will further consolidate the amicable relationship between the peoples of our two countries,’’.
