Ambassador ITO Naoki Made His Visit to the displaced persons’ Camps in Cox's Bazar

From October 30 to November 1, H.E. ITO Naoki, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh visited the "Rohingya" refugee camp in Cox's Bazar to observe support activities of international organization: IOM (USD 4.3 million), NGOs: Japan Plat Form (USD 1 million) funded by Japan in response to the fire damage in the camp in March this year.
Since four years have passed since the Rohingya crisis, there is a growing need for development from a medium- to long-term perspective. This includes livelihood support, education, technical assistance, and consideration for protecting the environment.
With this point of view, Ambassador ITO also observed the activities of the UNHCR's production center, where refugee volunteers produce jute bags. At the production center, masks donated by UNIQLO Co. to UNHCR were also distributed by Ambassador ITO and Mr. Johannes van der Klaauw, UNHCR representative.
In addition, he observed a public-private partnership project in which WFP and Euglena Co. collaborate to transfer mung bean cultivation technology to small-scale farmers in the host community, and World Vision Japan sells the cultivated mung beans at the camp's e-voucher store.
Ambassador ITO said that the fire damage reconstruction project supported by the Japanese government is an excellent example of "Build Back Better" and that the Japan will continue to provide necessary support in cooperation with the Bangladeshi government, international organizations, NGOs and private sectors.
