Special Lecture by Ms. Taguchi, Vice-President of Paralympian’s Association of Japan Held in Dhaka

                                    
                                                   

      On 5th March, a special lecture titled “Toward Building Inclusive Society -Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games-” by Ms. Taguchi Aki, the 3 times Paralympian and Vice-President of the Paralympian’s Association of Japan held in BRAC Centre Inn, Dhaka. With coming Tokyo 2020 Paralympic this year in scope, this lecture was co-organized by Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh and BRAC.

      H.E. Mr. Zahid Ahsan Russel, Hon’ble State Minister for Youth and Sports, as well as Ms. Valory Taylor, the President of the National Paralympic Committee of Bangladesh graced the occasion with their attendance.

     In her lecture, Ms. Taguchi emphasized the importance of accessibility not only on the physical infrastructures but also on the mindset of people without disability, for making the society more inclusive, accessible and diverse. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ito Naoki also mentioned that Tokyo 2020 Paralympic would be the best opportunity to spread the awareness for building more inclusive society, and that he hoped to see Bangladeshi Para-athletes to participate Paralympic Games in the future.

About Paralympic Games:

Paralympic Games are the largest international multi-sport competition for the people with disability. Since the first Paralympics held in 1960 in Rome, they are held every 4 years immediately after the Olympic Games in the same city. This year Tokyo will host its second Paralympics in August, which makes it the first city to host the Games for the second time.
