Japan Gives 150 Waste Collection Vehicles to Dhaka and Chittagong

On 15th December, the handing-over ceremony of 150 waste collection vehicles as a grant aid(1.486 billion Japanese Yen) from Government of Japan, “Procurement of Equipment for Solid Waste Management” was held at Local Government Division. Ambassador ITO Naoki attended the ceremony, which Mr. Md. Tajul Islam, Minister, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Co-operatives, Mr. Md. Atiqul Islam, Mayor, Dhaka North City Corporation, Mr. Md. Helal Uddin Ahmed,Secretary, Local Government Division and Mr. KAWAZOE Yasuhiro, Senior Representative, JICA also attended.
With the 150 waste collection vehicles, the capacity of collection will be enhanced in South Dhaka City, North Dhaka City and Chittagong City, and it is expected that the hygiene, living environment and residents' health will be improved.
The Government of Japan and JICA have provided support for waste disposal through technical cooperation, grant aid and yen loan, and will continue to extend assistance in this regard.
