   On 28^th November, the opening ceremony of “The Project for Medical Waste Management in Rangpur District” was held at Rangpur City Corporation at Rangpur district, which was implemented by PRISM Bangladesh Foundation (PRISM) with support of the Government of Japan through Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP). Mr. SHINTO Yasuharu, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh attended the ceremony, and Mr. Md. Mostafizar Rahman, Hon. Mayor of Rangpur City, Mr. Syed Enamul Kabir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Mr Abul Kalam Azad, Director, Department of Environment (Rangpur Division) and Mr Golam Farook, Director from PRISM also attended.
 
   PRISM was awarded the grant of $88,626, which is approximately BDT 7million for the project to install equipment for medical waste management, in association with Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC). RpCC provided the land to construct the medical waste management plant at their landfill site.There are 240 Health Care Establishments (HCEs) in Rangpur city. However, there was no facility to deal with the hazardous medical wastes in Rangpur city. After completion of the installation of equipment, PRISM is now capable of collecting medical wastes from the HCEs and manage them accordingly.
           
   Japan has supported 193 NGO projects through its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) since 1989 with the view to enhance economic and social human security in the grass-roots levels. The total sum of these GGHSP grants extended to NGOs in Bangladesh to date amounts approximately to $ 15 million.
