*Japan Festival 2007(Mar18-20, Dhaka)

(35 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Bangladesh)

On March 18-20, the Embassy of Japan will organize Japan Festival at Shaheed Zia Auditorium, National Museum. The program is as follows. If you have any questions, please contact the Cultural Section.

 

Japanese Film Festival

Nine Japanese Feature Films will be screened in 3 days.

Date: March 18-20, 2007(Three film a day, Free Admission)

Time: 02:00 p.m, 04:30 p.m, 07:00 p.m

Venue: Shaheed Zia Auditorium

Ikebana Demonstration

Ikebana as an established art dates from the Muromachi Period (1336-1573). This art form uses natural materials to achieve impacts and creativities and is able to express individual artistry as well as harmony between human being and the natural environment.

Date: March 18

Time: 11:30 a.m.

Venue: Shaheed Zia Auditorium

“Study in Japan” seminar and counseling

Learn about the exciting study opportunities through scholarship in more than 700 global standard universities and other institutions in Japan. Educational institutions of Japan offer opportunities for higher education and research on almost all fields, including Fine Arts, Humanities, Business, Social Science, Agriculture, Natural Science, Engineering and Medicine.

 [Recent Events on Japan-Bangladesh Relations]

 

* Japan’s Contribution to Vocational Training Center (Mar 7, Dhaka)

March 7, Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Masayuki Inoue, signed a Grant Contract amounting to US$89,480 (approximately Taka 60 lac) with Executive Director of Shushilan, Mr. Mostafa Nuruzzaman, under the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).

Shushilan is a Bangladeshi NGO stationed in Shamnogor upazilla, Satkhira district. Their mission is to sustain natural resource, livelihood and food security for the poor and to uphold human rights for the socially disadvantaged community with a focus on women in southwest coastal region.

The Japanese Grant will be utilized to construct a building for Vocational Training Center cum Cyclone Shelter at Shyamnagor, Satkhira. The center will benefit about 6,000 under privileged people per year, and about 400 people could use it as cyclone or storm center.

 

 

* Japan’s Support Sustainable Arsenic Mitigation (Feb 27, Jessore)

A workshop on sustainable arsenic mitigation through community initiative and local government support was held on February 27 in Jessore. Joint Secretary of Local Government Division (LGD), Mr. Md. Moyjuddin Ahmed, Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission of Japan, Mr. Yonezo Fukuda, and other distinguished guests were present. The workshop was organized by LGD with technical cooperation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Mr. Fukuda introduced Japan’s assistance in the reduction of arsenic contamination; technical assistance with Asia Arsenic Network, dispatching experts, and grant assistance for water examination laboratory.
