Academy, Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam. Director-General of Far
East Wing, Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh, and seven
trainees were present.
Ambassador Inoue introduced the three basic pillars of
Japan’s diplomatic policy: the Japan-US alliance
international cooperation, and relations with Asian
neighbors. He also explained another pillar “Arc of

* Japan’s Aid for Storm Water Drainage System (Feb 11,
Dhaka)
On February 11, the Governments of Japan and Bangladesh
signed an agreement concerning a Japanese Grant Aid of
JPY32 million (around Tk2 crore) for improving the Storm
Water Drainage System in Dhaka City (Phase II). Ambassador
Inoue and Mr. Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, Secretary of Economic
Relations Division, signed the Exchange of Notes on behalf
of their respective government.
An urban drainage is an important and urgent task. The
Government of Japan supported projects for improving the
Storm Water Drainage System in Dhaka City in 1991 through
1993.
The project reinforces the pumping capacity of the
existing Kallyanpur Pumping Station and the sludge removal
capacity of open channels and drainages pipes, and
procures various equipments.
