[1] Recent Event on Japan-Bangladesh Relations

* New JOCVs’ Arrival in Dhaka (Jan 12, Dhaka)

Seven new Japanese Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) arrived in Bangladesh on Janury 12. They extend cooperation in areas such as infection control, sports, rural community development, Japanese language, and science and mathematics education. They work for public organizations all over Bangladesh for two years.

Currently, forty-eight volunteers are engaged in various activities across Bangladesh with a good command of Bengali language.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has dispatched a total of 903 JOCVs to Bangladesh since March 1973. Areas of cooperation include agriculture, forestry and fisheries, processing, maintenance and management, civil engineering and construction, health and hygiene, education, and culture and sports.

Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, delivered a policy speech to a plenary session of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors after the opening ceremony of the 166th session of the Diet on January 26.

* Foreign Minister Aso’s Policy Speech (Jan 26, Tokyo)
