[3] Relay Essay by Japan Development Scholarship (JDS)
Fellow
(Mr. Md Shahriar Akter, Lecturer, Department of Business
Administration, East West University,
Bangladesh)
“Fortune favors the brave” and I am one of those brave
hearts who has been selected as one of the JDS fellows. My
quest for knowledge and innate desire for social
contribution led me to join as a teacher in education
sector. To serve that purpose, I worked as a lecturer in
East West University and teaching Principles of Marketing,
Supply Chain Management and Marketing Research related
courses.
Information is power. And it is such a power that can open
up windows of opportunity for a person as well as for a
nation. For emerging economies, this industry of ICT can
create tremendous opportunities to catch up with the
richer ones. As my field of research is “the Potentiality
of Mobile Marketing for the Socioeconomic Development of
Bangladesh,” I wish to establish an information umbrella
based on mobile network to connect the people from all
ends.
It may be noted that a large portion of our population is
living in villages and not enjoying the amenities of urban
life. So this interactive medium can act as a helping hand
to all of them by making them aware of new ideas, new
services and new goods. For instance, a poor farmer who
lives in a remote rural area but connected with a mobile
phone can get farming information for his production,
medical information for his sick mother or study related
information for his kids instead of costly physical trips.
Besides he can sell the services to his fellow villagers
for earning a good amount of money. I believe that we can
make a tremendous socioeconomic development by adopting
this technology.
Now I will focus on how my knowledge gathered in Japan
will contribute to the development process of Bangladesh:
1. By assisting to formulate time befitting policy
frameworks for telecommunication with an integration of
social dimensions;
2. By building a knowledge based community through
information umbrella based on mobile networks;
3. By empowering rural women to act as a change agent with
an adoption of this new technology;
4. By introducing new products (new goods, services,
experiences, events, information and ideas) through the
mobile phone to satisfy the needs and wants of people;
5. By providing right information to the right people at
the right time, we can produce more skilled and productive
people.
To turn all my dreams into reality, sophisticated academic
knowledge and techniques are needed. And I think Master of
E-Business Management at International University of Japan
is that magic stone which will help me to contribute to
the maximum level by utilizing my fullest potentiality to
achieve my goals. My loving country and I shall directly
be benefited from the JDS 2006-2007 program.
(Mr. Md Shahriar Akter is a JDS 2006 fellow and left for
Japan to study at International University of Japan for
two years.)

[4] Editor's Note
There have been a good number of articles about Prime
Minister Abe in and outside of Japan. It is intriguing to
learn how the outside world analyzes the new leader of
Japan and I want to keep paying a close attention to them.
