AMBASSODOR VISITS NAOGAON AND RAJSHAHI FOR INNAGURATION
CEREMONIES OF LOCAL NGOs
H.E.
Mr. Masayuki INOUE, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh attended
inauguration ceremonies of local NGOs, “BEDO (Bangladesh
Environment Development Organization)” and “Thanapara Swallows
Development Society (TSDS)” under Japan’s Grant Assistance for
Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).
BEDO received grant amounting to US$86,125 (Approximately
Taka 59 Lakh) for its project “Construction of BEDO Healthcare
Center in Naogaon” in Japanese fiscal year (JFY) 2007. The
main object of this project is to improve access to good
healthcare services for the poor at affordable cost and
contribute to improvement in comprehensive health condition in
the area.
TSDS received
grant amounting to US$80,625 (Approximately Taka 55 Lakh) for
its project “Expansion of Handicrafts Center in Thanapara
Village” at Rajshahi district in JFY 2006. The main objective
of this project is to create more income generation
opportunities for women employees who are from vulnerable
families.
In
the inauguration ceremonies, H.E. Mr. Masayuki INOUE,
Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh expressed its heartiest
congratulations to the two NGOs and sincere hope that the
projects would greatly contribute to socio-economic
development in Bangladesh.
Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP)
began in 1989 to contribute to social development at
grassroots level.
In
Bangladesh, a total number of 147 projects covering 121 NGOs
have already received grant amounting US$10 million
(approximately Taka 72 Crore).
