Japan Supports two local
NGOs “MSS” and “PROTTYASHI”
For Vocational Training
and Education Projects
On 19
March 2009, His Excellency Mr. Masayuki Inoue, Ambassador of
Japan in Bangladesh, signed two grant contracts totaling US
$173,665 (approximately Tk 1.19 crore) with two Bangladeshi
NGOs, “MSS” and “PROTTYASHI” under Japan’s Grant Assistance
for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).
“Manabik Shahajya Sangstha (MSS)” has been implementing
various projects in allover the country since its
establishment in 1974. Using the grant of “$88,057” from the
government of Japan, MSS will establish a new vocational
training center for the community people in Nirphamari, where
the highest poverty rate is observed. MSS’s project is titled
“Construction of Community-Based Resource Center in
Nirphamari”. And at the new center, villagers, school
teachers, local government officials, and NGO staffs will
develop their skills in various areas such as handy-crafts,
food processing, sewing, candle-making, IT, poultry,
reforestations and so on. The project will directly benefit
2,400 people per year and to be expected to lift their
incomes.
“PROTTYASHI” was established in 1983 with the aim of improving
socio-economic condition of the poor, especially women and
children in Chittagong district. PROTTYASHI will build a
two-story center of non-formal education for the poor people,
especially for dropouts and illiterate women in Bolkhali using
the grant of $85,608 from the government of Japan. The
project is titled “Construction
of PROTTYASHI Multi-Purpose Education Center”.
The new center will also provide vocational training courses
for women, who finish the non-formal education.
The Embassy of Japan hopes that those assistances by the
government of Japan will benefit the poor people and improve
their living standard in Bangladesh.
