For the contest, 322 candidate-designs were registered and the only one design by Mr. Md. Tarek Haider was selected as the winner. (The awarded design is shown below.)  The awarded design will be attached on outside of 100 waste collecting vehicles, which will be newly procured by DDC under the assistance of Japan cooperation Agency (JICA).

DCC has been conducting an environment-friendly project on solid waste management in Dhaka City for these years under the assistance of JICA including the improvement of waste collection situation around Old Dhaka area.  In addition, a new Japan’s grant aid project named “programme for improvement of Solid Waste Management in Dhaka City toward the Low Carbon Society” of approximately Tk 91 crore (1,215 million JPY) was agreed between the both governments of Japan and Bangladesh in 19th February this year for strengthening the waste collection and transportation capacity of DCC.  The main purpose of the project is to realize “Clean Dhaka” in near future along with DCC’s “cleaning Dhaka Master Plan” and to contribute to the measurements against climate change in the long perspective.  This project includes the procurement of new 100 waste collecting vehicles.

The running vehicles with the awarded design in the city will be expected to enhance awareness among the people in Dhaka of the importance of addressing environmental issues, especially collecting wastes.
