Japanese Debt Relief Grant
Assistance (DRGA) for
Construction of New Food
Go down with Ancillary Facilities in the Northern Region of
Bangladesh

On July 8, 2009, the Government of Japan approved the Debt
Relief Grant Assistant–Counterpart Fund (DRGA-CF), amounting
Tk 24,081.25 lakh (USD 34.40 million) for the project named
“Construction of New Food Godown with Ancillary Facilities in
the Northern Region of the Country”.
The objective of the project is to increase the existing food
grain storage capacity of the Directorate General of Food (DGoF)
by another 1,10,000 metric tons. Therefore, the project will
be helpful for not only to improve food security net of the
country but also it will inspire the farmers to produce more
food grain by procuring food grain directly from them.
Mr. Yonezo Fukuda, Charge d’ Affaires expressed his aspiration
that, this strategy will ensure food security of Bangladesh by
catering smooth supply of food during the time of crisis.
Note: The Japanese Counterpart Fund is generated from the Debt
Relief Grant Aid (DRGA) and K. R. Food Aid. The Japanese
Government provided DRGA for eligible debtor countries
including Bangladesh in return for repayment of their ODA
debts. The total number of DRGA provided to Bangladesh was
about 256.8 billion yen (approximately 15,100 crore Taka or
2,334 million USD)
