Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) 9th Batch fellows have returned

On 22 November 2012, a welcome party was arranged for recently returned JDS 9th Batch fellows at the Japanese Ambassador's residence. This 9th batch consists of 15 JDS fellows. They have studied in different fields in different universities of Japan. The fellows were welcomed by Mr. Md. Mosta Gausul Hoque, the President of JDS Alumni Association and EC members of JDS Alumni Association. From today, these 15 fellows will be a part of the JDS Alumni Association and will contribute to strengthening the existing Japan-Bangladesh friendly relations. Mr. Shigeki Furuta, Senior Representative of JICA and officials of the Embassy of Japan were present on the occasion.
H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, the Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, urged the JDS fellows to keep in mind that both Bangladeshi and Japanese people expect a great deal from them for the development of their own country through making the best use of knowledge and experience acquired in Japan.
JDS program was established in Bangladesh by the Government of Japan in 2001. The objective of this program is to support the Bangladesh Government in its efforts to facilitate its own plans for human resource development mainly for capacity building and institutional building and thereby extending and enhancing the bilateral relation between Japan and Bangladesh. The formal title of the JDS is "The Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)" that aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of young Bangladeshi people so that they can play vital roles in the development of Bangladesh after successful completion of their studies in Japan. So far a total of 213 JDS fellows were sent to Japan and 182 fellows have already returned with their accomplishments and ambitions to contribute to the socio-economic development of this country. Moreover, 30 fellows are still in Japan and pursuing their higher studies. Next year 15 JDS fellows are expected to depart for Japan under this program.
