Bangladeshi Students Reported to Japanese Chargés d'Affaires ad interim:JENESYS 2.0 Youth Exchange Program by the Government of Japan

On May 21, 2015, seven Bangladeshi university students, Japanese language school students and their supervisor who came back after attending the JENESYS 2.0 youth exchange program in Japan from December 1 to 9, 2014 reported to Mr. Takeshi Matsunaga, Chargés d'Affaires ad interim, at the Embassy of Japan.

JENESYS 2.0 is a youth exchange program between Japan and mainly Asian countries to reaffirm and strengthen our bond through promoting people-to-people exchange.

Eight university students, Japanese language school students and their supervisor from Bangladesh visited Japan and participated in various youth programs held in Kyoto and Tokyo.

Passionately reporting about their life-time inspiring experiences in Japan before Mr. Matsunaga, the students expressed their determination to apply lessons learned about Japanese advanced technology, waste management system, and discipline etc. in order for sustainable development of Bangladesh for the next generation.

In his welcome speech, Mr. Matsunaga appreciated the presentations by the participants and pointed out that while Japan and Bangladesh have differences, he found a lot of commonalities as well, especially in rural areas in Bangladesh. He further added that Japan would share with Bangladesh its past experience to help the latter becoming a middle-income country.

JENESYS 2.0 Programme Overview: The JENESYS 2.0 programme was announced by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his stay in Jakarta on January 18, 2013 as a continuation of the original JENESYS programme (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) carried out from 2007 to 2012 and as a one of the important foreign policy of Japan. The programme is planned to promote potential interest towards Japan within the young generation, to increase visitors to Japan as well as to facilitate global understanding on Japanese values and Japan’s strengths and attraction including “Cool Japan” toward the revitalisation of the Japanese economy. Approximately 35,000 youths from 41 countries, throughout Asian/Oceania region and North America, were the target of the programme.
