Japan Supports Poor Fishermen and Future Paramedics

The government of Japan has decided to extend two grant assistance totaling US$ 246,867 (approximately Taka 2 crore) through Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP). The grant contracts have been signed between H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, and representatives of two recipients at the Embassy of Japan today.
Bangladesh Human Rights and Resource Development Society (BHRRDS) was established in 2004 to work for sustainable rural development, community development, development of human resources, gender equity etc. Under GGHSP, BHRRDS has received US$ 123,432 (Tk 9,874,610) for construction of dried-fish production facility for fisherman community in Taltoly Upazilla, Barguna District and procurement of solar panel, equipments and furniture. This project will help fishermen communities to empower themselves by increasing their income through preparing dried-fish in hygienic process and selling those at a good price. It is expected that through this project 1,200 fishermen will be benefitted per year.
Research, Training & Management (RTM) International was established in 1994. RTM International has been working for the improvement of health and education primarily for the poor and vulnerable population. Under GGHSP, RTM International has received US$ 123,435 (TK 9,874,865) to establish health human resource development center to train paramedics. Future paramedics will receive high quality training and to be hoped that they work in community. There will be training for 60 students in each grade.
The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) began its operation in 1989 and has been contributing to social development at the grassroots level. In Bangladesh, a total number of 175 projects have received the grant amounting to US$ 13,304,102 (Approximately Taka 109 Crore).
