Japan Supports Installation of Equipment for Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital

On 23rd February, H.E. Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, attended the opening ceremony of ‘The Project for Installation of Equipment for Expansion of Eye Care Service for the Poor’ in Dhaka, which was implemented by Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital with support of the Government of Japan through Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP). He hoped that this project would greatly contribute for improvement of eye health care services in Bangladesh. Mr. Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairperson of BRAC and Mr. M. Ali Behrouz Ispahani, Chairman of Ispahani Group also attended the ceremony.
In 2012 Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital received USD 122,093 or approximately BDT 97 lac through which they procured steam sterilizer, washer disinfector and ultrasonic cleaner for the newly constructed operation theatre suite. As a result, safe operating environment will be created by thoroughly sterilizing all the operating instruments and, thus, the project will ensure international standards of patient safety and better surgical operations for the people of the region. Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital will increase the number of surgeries from 26,000 to 34,000 per year in two years.
The Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP) began its operation in 1989 and has been contributing to social development at the grassroots level. In Bangladesh, a total number of 173 projects have received the grant amounting to US$ 13,057,235 (Approximately Taka 107 Crore).
