25 November 2015

On November 25, 2015, Ambassador Watanabe attended a contract signing ceremony between the Roads and Highways Department and OSJI Japanese joint venture company regarding the project funded under the 34th Japanese Government Loan signed in 2013. The project will construct the 2nd brides at Kanchpur, Meghna and Gumti respectively to increase the lane capacity of Dhaka - Chittagong Highway, and rehabilitate these 3 existing bridges which were also constructed by the Japanese Government funding. The bridges will be constructed using Japanese high-skill and technology developed in Japan based on mature experience called "Steel Pipe Sheet Pile Method," whose merit is its speedy construction.

Under the firm belief that building the needed infrastructure is a key to economic growth, Government of Japan has been building and rehabilitating numerous bridges including Jamuna Bridge, Lalon Shar Bridge, Rupsha Bridge, Meghna Bridge and Gumti Bridge to facilitate economic activities and improve the livelihood of the people of Bangladesh. Improving the vital bridges on the Dhaka - Chittagong Highway will contribute to the Initiative of the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (BIG-B) and to the economic development of Bangladesh.
