Japan Provides USD 3.5 million to Support Stranded Persons in Indian Ocean through IOM & UNHCR


Dhaka: 2 July 2015

On June 19, the Government of Japan decided to provide USD 3.5 million to support the stranded persons in Indian Ocean. Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida announced decision in a key note speech in “the High-Level Seminar on Peacebuilding, National Reconciliation and Democratization in Asia” on June 20, 2015.

Japan’s humanitarian assistance will be realized through providing temporary shelters, health and nutritional supports through International Organization for Migration (IOM); and reinforcing the capacity of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to gather, share and analyze information on the people’s movements on the sea.
