Ambassador Sadoshima deplores the increasing violence caused by political confrontation

Dhaka: 8 April 2013

(1) It is extremely deplorable that violence and sabotage stemming from the confrontation among political parties have caused the unnecessary loss of many lives, personal injuries and the damage to property such as trains and vehicles. I am deeply concerned about the present situation that has disrupted the country’s socioeconomic activities. Also, it has had an adverse impact on economic relations with Japan.
(2) While freedom of expression and peaceful protest should be respected, no political ends should justify one’s action to spoil the lives and livelihoods of innocent civilians.
(3) Therefore, I would like to call for all parties and citizens to respect the rule of law and to resolve the present conflict through peaceful means and dialogue.

Shiro Sadoshima
Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh
